Oregon Republican National Committeewoman Files Complaint With Secretary of State Regarding Illegal Conduct by Tina Kotek

Salem, Ore. – Oregon Republican National Committeewoman Tracy Honl has filed a complaint with Oregon’s Secretary of State, Shemia Fagan, in response to recent reports that Democrat Candidate for Governor, Tina Kotek, secretly promised to take specific actions as governor to induce a rival candidate, Natalie Paravicini, to withdraw from the governor’s race.

Oregon law prohibits undue influence—“promising” any “thing of value”—intended to induce a person to cease being a candidate. In private discussions, Kotek committed to using her position to advocate for specific campaign finance regulations and limits if elected governor. These policies were then added to her campaign website, after which Paravicini withdrew on the last possible day.

Progressive Oregonians were stripped of the opportunity to vote for Natalie Paravicini in the Democrat party’s primary as a result of Kotek’s unlawful actions. Ironically, Tina Kotek is already violating the very campaign finance limits that she agreed to support, by accepting millions from groups that avoid any such limits.

National Committeewoman Tracy Honl released the following statement after filing the complaint:

“Tina Kotek bought off a left-wing rival through bully-style tactics and false promises and progressive Oregonians were stripped of the opportunity to vote for this candidate in the Democrat party’s primary as a result of Kotek’s unlawful actions.”

Honl continued, “Tina Kotek has broken the law and must be held accountable. She has shown that she is corrupt and unfit to lead. We call on Secretary Shamia Fagan to do what’s right by the people of Oregon and hold Tina Kotek accountable for breaking the law.”
