Dennis Richardson Takes Oath of Office as Oregon Secretary of State
Wilsonville, OR - Oregon Republican Party Chair Bill Currier issued a statement today upon the swearing in of Dennis Richardson as Oregon’s new Secretary of State at the State Capitol in Salem this afternoon.
"I just want to take the opportunity to congratulate Secretary of State Dennis Richardson on his taking the oath office as the first Republican Secretary of State sworn in since 1976," said Oregon Republican Chairman Currier. "It was a special for Oregon and a great start to our new Secretary of State's term of office."
Hundreds of attendees were on hand in the State Capitol Senate Chamber in Salem to witness the ceremony and heard remarks prior to the swearing in from Republican Congressman Greg Walden. "Transparency and accountability are the twin engines" of the important work of Secretary of State's," remarked Congressman Walden as he talked about how significant this moment is for Oregon.
Many dignitaries as well as regular citizens and grassroots supporters were among those in attendance. Oregon Republican Chairman Bill Currier was among them and lauded the momentous occasion saying, "this is a huge day for honest, good government in Oregon, a day in the view many that has been long overdue. It was great to witness this and to know that the vital work of holding our state government accountable is now in the hands of a public servant of such integrity in Dennis Richardson."
The occasion was marked by a strong spirit of bipartisanship and a focus on putting Oregonians First before politics. "Secretary of State Richardson made it clear that he is committed to being fair and above-partisanship in his relentless efforts to serve the public in this critical role in State Government," added Chair Currier. "He will ensure that Oregonians get the transparent and accountable government they sent him there to deliver and which they richly deserve."
