Governor Brown Campaigns at Oregon Final Four Game, Oregon GOP Calls On Campaign To Reimburse Taxpayers

Wilsonville, OR– Oregon Republican Party Chairman issued a statement regarding revelations that Governor Brown was campaigning at the University of Oregon’s Final Four loss this past Saturday in Arizona:

President Trump Speech to Congress According to a report in the East Oregonian this week, Governor Kate Brown’s campaign has openly admitted that it was a campaign event for her which her campaign bankrolled, except the anti-gun politician’s armed personal security detail, for which taxpayers had to foot the bill.

Saturday’s game was the first appearance by the University of Oregon Ducks in the NCAA Basketball Tournament Final Four since 1939, in which, unfortunately, the Ducks lost in the final seconds of the game to the eventual NCAA Champions, the University of North Carolina, by a score of 77-76.

“Why can't the Governor give Oregonians a break from her perpetual campaigning, in part at taxpayer expense, and spend more time getting serious about solving our state’s crises, like the ballooning PERS crisis and the $1.8 billion deficit, to name a few?,” said Oregon Republican Chairman Bill Currier.

In the East Oregonian article, Governor Brown’s campaign manager, Thomas Wheatley, claims that “Brown is a ‘big fan’ of the Oregon Ducks and other Oregon college sports teams.”

“This claim rings of shallow pandering by a ‘say anything, do anything to get elected’ politician in need of a distraction from her inept and disappointing leadership in Salem,” said Currier. “How much did Oregon taxpayers have to pay for this?”

"Governor Brown’s unprecedented campaign antics in Glendale, Arizona, leave a bad taste in people's’ mouths on a day that should be about the Oregon Ducks and not her," added Currier. "Perhaps, she owes the Ducks basketball team and our state’s citizens an apology for tainting the momentous occasion that it was - or could have been - with politics. She could at least reimburse Oregon taxpayers from her campaign coffers for the bill she stuck them with for this campaign junket."
