Tax-Obsessed Kate Brown Now Going After Bicycle Owners
Wilsonville, OR - Oregon Governor Kate Brown and her Democrat allies are going after the state’s bicycle owners with a tax on new bicycle purchases. With Oregon cities like Portland widely regarded as some of the most bike-friendly locales in America, the new tax will discourage what most Oregonian’s consider a healthy, environmentally-friendly activity and will surely be a burden on the thousands of Oregonians who use bicycles to commute to work each day.
ANCHOR: “Governor Kate Brown is expected to sign a new bill making Oregon the first state in the country to tax new bike sales; the bill would add a fifteen dollar tax to new bikes costing more than two hundred dollars and with wheels twenty-six inches or bigger. We talked with local bike shops. Bob Kamzelski who co-owns City Bikes in Southeast Portland, says he thinks it’s unfair to cyclists.”
BOB KAMZELSKI: “Like I love cycling, I think cycling’s a really great thing to do for the planet, for our city, it’s healthy for the people who do it and like adding another barrier to entry to that is just really not great.”
“No matter how many times the people of Oregon reject her new tax schemes, Democrat Governor Kate Brown keeps looking for new ways to tax them,” stated Oregon GOP Chairman Bill Currier.
“She just continues to view the people of her state as nothing more than a piggy bank to fund her efforts to impose job-killing policies,” said Currier. “Now add anti-healthy, environmentally-unfriendly policies to that list.”
“Kate Brown’s endless obsession with finding new and innovative ways to take money out of the pockets of Oregon taxpayers proves how desperate the state is for a change come 2018."
