Oregon GOP Chair Applauds President Trump's Nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court

Wilsonville, OR– Oregon Republican Party Chairman issued a statement reacting to President Trump’s nomination Tuesday evening of 10th Federal Circuit Court Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by the passing of the late Antonin Scalia.

Trump Nominating Gorsuch “We applaud President’s Trump’s selection of Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the seat of the late Justice Antonin Scalia. Judge Gorsuch is a supremely qualified jurist who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2006 to his seat on the 10th Federal Circuit Court without opposition, a process during which he received a unanimous ‘well qualified rating’ from the American Bar Association, the highest rating given. We are looking forward to open and fair hearings for the U.S. Senate to fulfill its advice and consent duties.”

"We also expect that the opponents of the Gorsuch nomination, some of whom announced their opposition before Judge Gorsuch was even nominated, such as Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, will resort to partisan political games in order to sabotage the approval process. These opponents should be mindful that the American people have little patience for such games and expect their elected representatives to get the people’s business done," cautioned Chair Currier. “Wasn’t it President Obama that reminded everyone that ‘elections have consequences’?”

In 2006, Judge Gorsuch was described by Senators on both sides of the aisle as “very intelligent” and said to have “a sense of fairness and impartiality.” Over the years, Gorsuch has received near universal acclaim from those on both the left and the right, with liberal legal minds and Democrats calling him "a very talented, gifted judge," "very ethical," "very smart," and "thoughtful and fair-minded."

"Once again, President Trump has kept yet another promise by nominating a stellar judge who will faithfully interpret the Constitution in the tradition of Justice Scalia," added Currier. "Constitutional governance with courts that judge, but don’t legislate is a win for everyone."
