Currier Op Ed Calls For An End To Riot Groups and Need For Tough Legal Action

Wilsonville, OR – Oregon Republican Party Chairman Bill Currier, in an Opinion Editorial piece appearing in the Saturday May 6, 2017 edition of The Oregonian, lays out the stark choices that leaders all over the state must face up to, especially in Portland, to put an end to the Anti-Free Speech groups who are using threats of physical violence and intimidation against Republicans and others whose political opinions they disagree with. Chairman Currier, in the piece, makes the following powerful point:

Their Parade vs Our Parade"It's time to face it: First and foremost, Portland has a “riot” problem, not a Trump problem or a Republican problem. The strategy of appeasing rioters at the expense of the law-abiding citizens and business owners has entirely failed, and the people have had enough of it. Violent protests aren’t protests. They are riots. It is now time for the “Riot Games” to end. Local authorities must do more than catch and release these rioters. As a start, they must charge, prosecute, convict and incarcerate them..."

Currier also makes the point that it is time to treat these groups as the domestic terrorists that they are and use the full force of every level of government to "examine if the actions of these groups to abridge the free speech and assembly rights of others should be subject to federal civil rights charges, along with applicable “hate crime” and domestic terrorism charges with the goal of putting these groups "out of business."

“In an era of threats and intimidation by the political left, egged on by the increasingly more radical Democrat party, I know saying and doing the right thing here in Oregon earns you a never-ending assault from the Democrats and their political war machine," declared Chair Currier. “But under my leadership, the Oregon Republican Party will continue to stand up to and confront these radical elements in our state that are trying to "shut down" the freedoms of and demonize good patriotic Americans."

The Oregon Republican Party is the state’s arm of the Republican National Committee. It’s Chairman and officers are dedicated to preserving and advancing Republican principles within the state of Oregon and to improving the lives and livelihoods of Oregon’s working families through economic freedom and equal protection under the law.
