Oregon GOP Files Ethics Complaint Against Governor Kate Brown

Wilsonville, OR – Today the Oregon Republican Party (ORP) filed a complaint with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC) over Governor Kate Brown’s use of public funds for campaign purposes. In addition, the complaint asks for the commission to review Kate Brown’s solicitation of contributions from government contractors and possible influence peddling.

“These reports show a clear pattern of unethical behavior and misuse of public funds. This is particularly concerning since her predecessor resigned under an ethical cloud of similar allegations,” said Oregon Republican Party Chair Bill Currier. “Voters deserve a full investigation and to know the truth prior to the November election.”

Willamette Week also reported in 2015 that Comcast ‘ghost wrote’ a letter on behalf of then-Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown to the Federal Communications Commission in support of Comcast’s merger with Time Warner Cable. Comcast gave Brown $10,000 in campaign donations.

“The ORP has filed this complaint on behalf of Oregon taxpayers who have seen little transparency or accountability from this Governor,” Currier said. “We now have multiple sources, including a former senior campaign staffer, claiming the governor has violated ethics laws. We need an independent investigation from OGEC to get the facts.”

The Executive Director of the OGEC will review the complaint and their staff will notify the Governor within two days if they determine that the complaint falls within their jurisdiction.

The Oregon Republican Party is the state’s arm of the Republican National Committee. Its Chairman and officers are dedicated to preserving and advancing Republican principles within the state of Oregon and to improving the lives and livelihoods of Oregon’s working families through economic freedom and equal protection under the law.
