Oregon Republican Party Urges Defeat of Measure 97
Wilsonville, OR - The Oregon Republican Party State Central Committee, composed of Republicans from all reaches of the state, has voted to officially oppose the passage of Measure 97 and to urge Oregonians to vote "NO on 97" as they begin casting their ballots this weekend.
"The Oregon Republican Party is sending a clear and powerful message - Measure 97 is massive job killer that will lead to higher prices for food, gas, and other everyday essentials while harming businesses and killing jobs - with no guarantee that the money will go to education or anything else voters are being to told by the tax's supporters," said State Republican Chairman Bill Currier.
"If history is any guide, the money won't go to the voter's priorities and just lead to more out of control spending and Democrat special interest groups pay-to-play schemes - followed by more pleas for higher taxes again in the near future," added Chair Currier. "Our party and our candidates are presenting a united front in calling out Measure 97 for what it really is, a Hidden Sales Tax, that consumers will end up paying just like the sales tax measures that Oregonians have rejected nine times before."
