Oregon state government has a long history of mismanaging our healthcare tax dollars, including:

  • Wasting $300 million on Cover Oregon, the website that never enrolled a single person for health insurance;
  • Paying $280 million a year for nearly 55,000 Medicaid recipients who were recently found ineligible to receive the Oregon Health Plan; and
  • Overpaying health care organizations $74 Million Dollars when they improperly coded 41,000 Medicare patients into Medicaid. Oregon taxpayers are still owed $64 million!

And, instead of treating Medicaid as the shared responsibility that it is, Oregon's elected leaders adopted a funding strategy of new taxes. Who pays?

  • 217,000 individuals;
  • 15,500 employers including small businesses and non-profits;
  • Nearly 12,000 college students; and
  • Every public school in Oregon - $25 MILLION swept from the K-12 budgets of local school districts.

Large corporations, unions, and insurance companies lobbied for and received an exemption from paying these taxes. In fact, one section of the bill expressly allows insurance companies to pass the new taxes directly to the purchaser.  For more info, visit https://www.facebook.com/stophealthcaretaxes
This tax, which the Tax and Spend leaders in Salem try to call an "assessment", is so bad that newspapers all over the state have recommended a big fat NO vote on it.  Not know for supporting Republican policies, even the state's widest circulation daily newspaper, The Oregonian, has said VOTE NO!
